Shark Frenzy Scene - Conservation

Description

Here you see a Shortfin Mako Shark surrounded by some hammerheads, a few different reef sharks and a fairly large Tiger Shark, with a Great White lurking in the deep...

I made this because I really love sharks, with the Bull being one of my top favorites - sharks have always fascinated me and I take great interest in these beautiful yet mysterious ocean dwellers; I do very much enjoy watching nature documentaries and reading books on sharks, and those many, many books I have borrowed from the library over the years has sparked the idea of creating an underwater scene featuring a frenzy of hungry sharks, using the books' photographs as references. Then when I saw several tutorials on creating underwater environments, despite my lack of patience when it comes to backgrounds, I knew I had to give it a shot, and once I did it took me ages to find out when it was finally completed as the process was quite fun :meow:

While I do occasionally enjoy the films featuring sharks for fun, it is a shame that most people view sharks as mindless, ravenous, ruthless murderers that kill anyone that steps foot in the water simply for the utter thrill of it all. In reality sharks are just like any other wild animal and they must eat to survive; while a handful of fatal shark attacks on humans occur each year being such attacks are quite rare, sometimes due to mistaken identity, several tens of millions of sharks are killed by us humans each year solely for their fins, once the fins are severed the fin-less sharks are thoughtlessly tossed right back into the water only for them to die slowly and painfully.

Shark conservation is very important! Otherwise these astonishingly beautiful and mysterious creatures could go extinct, all thanks to us humans... We need more to be aware of human brutality on sharks, the millions of sharks slaughtered for our own selfishness, and we need more to help support their conservation

This is my first time creating any sort of digital scene or anything like this, never have I done anything near close to the result here. Backgrounds are not my specialty, in fact I find creating backgrounds too boring to bother with and never do I finish them, but I decided to endure creating one anyway just for this... and this is the result - I am pretty kind of sort of proud of the outcome, so please no critique, feedback is always very nice but I would prefer not to hear all the dozens of things wrong with this garbage, thank you.

I used these two fabulous tutorials:

Wacom Intuos 4 & Photoshop Elements 9

& Field Guide on sharks & other marine life

THIS IS ALL KINDS OF AMAZING.

Sharks scare the fuck out of me - no no, that's not exactly true. The wide open waters of the ocean scare me half to death, and it just so happens that sharks are the badass mother-effers who rule that territory. Sharks are fascinating in a scary way, but that doesn't mean that they deserve to be slaughtered like they don't have a brain that helps them survive in those dangerous waters. Every animal (whether on land or in sea or in the goddamn air) has the right to be protected from us asshole humans.

I just love how you do everything with such incredible passion, my dearie.

AND SHUT UP, THIS ARTWORK IS FUCKING GORGEOUS!

(i especially love those bubbles, hehe)
